Shostakovich 5 - BBC Proms 2025

Overview

BBC Proms Production - Produced in collaboration with Aurora Orchestra and Frantic Assembly.

Frantic Assembly teamed up with Aurora Orchestra as they returned to the BBC Proms with a signature memorised and dramatised performance, this time unwrapping Shostakovich's gripping Fifth Symphony.

Explore a symphony from the inside out. Conductor Nicholas Collon and the Aurora Orchestra reflected the 50th anniversary of Shostakovich's death with a Prom that took the audience under the hood of a 20th-century masterpiece and into the mind of the man who made it. With movement from Frantic Assembly, actors joined Aurora's players to bring to life a symphony born in the shadow of Stalin’s regime – music on the edge of life and death by a composer treading a dangerous line between political obedience and artistic defiance.

Subsequently broadcast on BBC Four and BBC iPlayer
