Conrad Cohen
Conrad is Teachers Programme Manager at the Royal Shakespeare Company as well as a theatre director, actor, teacher and independent scholar.
He is a Visiting Lecturer, Module Leader and Tutor at the Performers College, the British American Drama Academy and the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, where he recently achieved a distinction in an MFA in Actor Training and Coaching. As an Acting Teacher, Conrad specialises in acting technique, classical and contemporary theatre, Jewish performance practices, and other performing arts and actor training specialisms, particularly the methods of Sanford Meisner, Stella Adler and Constantin Stanislavsky. He is also an independent scholar, and his current research includes investigating the approaches of Jewish acting practitioners in Europe and America; his book chapter in Stanislavsky and Race (published by Routledge in 2023) in particular focused on the Jewish influences of Stanislavsky-based actor training in 20th century America.
Originally from Glasgow, Conrad attained a BSc (Hons) in Mathematics from the University of Nottingham before training as an actor at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York. After returning to the UK, he became a qualified teacher with a PGCE from the University of Northampton, then taught Mathematics and Drama in secondary education and worked as Head of Drama before leaving teaching to join the Royal Shakespeare Company.
